As outlined in the NRC Policy on Conflict of Interest, as an NRC employee, you have the right to engage in political activities, as long as it does not impair, or is not perceived as impairing, your ability to perform your duties in a politically impartial manner. Note that if you are considering becoming a candidate in a federal, provincial, territorial or municipal election, you must obtain permission before publicly declaring your intention and you may be asked to take a leave of absence for the duration of the campaign and for the term if elected. Non-candidacy activities, such as volunteering for a candidate, should be self-assessed for impartiality, and a conflict of interest declaration should be submitted to the Senior Ethics Officer if there is any concern or risk around impartiality.
