No. At the NRC, inventors are entitled to Inventor Fixed Milestone Awards at certain milestones in the patenting process and Revenue Share Awards if an invention is licensed. As a result, involvement in patenting or licensing decisions could represent a conflict of interest as decisions may result in personal financial benefit to the inventor. Inventors must recuse themselves from these discussions – i.e. they cannot participate and this recusal should be recorded in the relevant meeting documentation.
