NRC’s COI Policy was updated in 2021 following a comprehensive analysis of the key risk areas for conflict of interest at the NRC.
Travel offers from third parties was identified as a key risk area to be managed.
Acceptance of sponsored travel or conference expenses may give the appearance of having influence on our objectivity in carrying out our official duties or creating a real, apparent or potential conflict of interest.
The 2019 Audit of the NRC Conflict of Interest (COI) program affirmed that “effective prevention and management of COI situations is critical for ensuring the integrity of NRC’s research, operations and culture, and for maintaining public trust and confidence in NRC’s ability to achieve its mission and uphold its values.” Other significant risk areas identified included: outside employment and activities, safeguarding intellectual property, and adjunct professorships.
